CARE (Controlling Aggressive Responses Effectively)

Healthcare violence is growing at an alarming rate. More assaults occur in the healthcare industry then any other. Healthcare professionals are faced with the daunting task of helping others and protecting themselves. According to an epidemiological study conducted in Minnesota in 2004, nurses are particularly vulnerable to physical and non-physical assault. The study found that roughly 13 out of 100 nurses were physically assaulted and 39 out of 100 were exposed to non-physical assault that includes threats, sexual harassment and verbal abuse.

The CARE courses are designed specifically for healthcare professionals focusing on how to handle aggressive patients. The courses focus on controlling violent behavior by applying minimal use of force to protect the individual and avoid litigation. There are four key principles that are taught in the hands on training classes: skeletal locking, blending/connection, posture/presence and grounding.

The CARE courses begin with awareness, avoidance and de-escalation and progress through controlling techniques and post conflict resolution. They can be taken separately or in a series of units depending on need.
